The featured reader is Peter Damian Bellis, resident of Lock Haven, and author of The Conjure Man, an engaging, enduring tale set in the deep south with elements of magical realism, and a delightfully meandering narrative style that hearkens to Mark Twain.  Bellis will read from work in progress, but a PDF of The Conjure Man is available for free here.  The Conjure Man was one of 500 books that was in the running to be chosen as a finalist for the National Book Award in 2010.

Peter Damian Bellis grew up in a household of books. His father was an English professor, so by the time he was sixteen he had read Twain, Hawthorne, Melville, most of Conrad, and also Tolkien, Heinlein, and Asimov. After he graduated from Northwestern University, where he majored in English Literature, he read Faulkner, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Zora Neale Hurston, Morrison, and Walker.  He spent his boyhood winters in Minnesota and his boyhood summers in Florida and South Carolina, all of which has given him an appreciation for extremes of temperature.  He currently lives and works in Pennsylvania.

His collection of short stories, One Last Dance with Lawrence Welk & Other Stories, was a 1997 Minnesota Book Award Finalist.
